Playing away at Athelstone for one of the few games of the weekend, Barossa United took on Eastern United. Barossa, missing a couple of players due to the school holidays, and their goalkeeper out with injury, they started the game with a new revised lineup.
From the first whistle they began with the majority of possession and were relentless in attack. With good communication, plenty of run and some great passes they were quick to make an impact; Jokk putting one past the goalkeeper just three minutes in. Barossa looked in control of the game for the majority of the first half and any runs forward from the Eastern United side were quickly shut down with a strong defensive effort. The young Barossa side then counteracted with long clearing kicks from replacement goalkeeper, Louis, quick runs from Oliver and plenty of flair in attack from Heath. They were unlucky not to score again in the first half with plenty of shots on goal – Barossa led at half time, 0-1.
The second half started in similar fashion with Barossa taking the ball forward on plenty of occasions, keeping the home goalkeeper under pressure. Through a turnover mid pitch and a long shot over the head of the Barossa goalkeeper, Eastern United levelled the score 36 minutes down. Barossa regrouped and went back to work as the day was starting to heat up. Oliver earning a free kick from just inside the halfway line, managed to score a fantastic goal putting the away side 1-2 up, and back in the lead again. The play out of defense and the run down the sidelines through Darcy and co, often met with physical clashes, was persistent and hard fought. Eastern United pressing harder as the game drew closer to the end, earning a flurry of corner kicks, Barossa lifted even more in defense and strong goal line saves and clearances kept the away side in front.
Final score Eastern United 1, Barossa United 2.
A great team game by Barossa and all the players put in a solid game full of run and effort.
