In their first game of the 2026 season, the girls had a fantastic hard fought win 2-1 against a determined Campbelltown City team. In picture perfect conditions (25-27 degrees) it was humid meaning an extra drinks break was added.
In the first half Barossa looked very dangerous with several promising attacks from Lucy and Pippa. Eventually as a result of good team work, with accurate passes, Emme was able to score with a magnificent long range goal that cannoned into the net giving the opposition goal keeper no chance. The whole defence, lead by Daisy and Phoebe, were playing determined and desperate soccer, and also the newcomers Meg and Molly turned back several opposition attempts. Midway through the first half, again as a result of great team work, a series of accurate and sharp clever passes allowed Lucy to take full advantage and score a second quality goal.
Lilly was consistent all day intercepting many balls and creating opportunities for our strikers with plenty of speed through the mid field.
The second half was a tight tussle with Molly, Ruby and Charlotte starting to win many important balls. All the team were playing very well both in defence and attack. Emme again found the net after an indirect free kick but it was disallowed after not having the required second touch.
The game moved up a notch when the opposition scored a goal with 5 minutes to go despite the best efforts of our tiring defence. The day was a credit to the whole team who dug deep with everybody contributing and showing great determination to steady the ship and grab a well-deserved win. It looks like an exciting season ahead!
