An early start and a long drive didn’t stop our Barossa United side from putting together a fantastic team performance away against Adelaide Athletico this morning. Thankfully, the coffee van was well utilised by the travelling parents before kick-off!
Barossa started brightly, with Aiden Yego finding the back of the net in the opening minutes. Adelaide Athletico responded soon after, setting up a competitive contest from the outset.
Our defensive pressure was outstanding throughout the match, with Hermann Metz and Toby Saunders applying constant pressure and keeping the opposition on their toes. Bruno Wight proved to be a brick wall in defence before later stepping up to score the goal that put Barossa back in front.
Archer Liddell was clinical in front of goal, scoring with a clever toe tap before adding another important goal to help keep Barossa in the contest. Audrey Schulz delivered a fantastic left-footed cross that Charlie Searle came agonisingly close to converting.
Edward Worrall never stopped working, continually bouncing back and putting in a determined effort every time he was called upon.
Sebastian Lambert was outstanding with his runs from defence, driving the ball up the line and creating attacking opportunities, while Finn Miller stood tall late in the game with two outstanding saves to deny Adelaide Athletico and help secure the win.
It was a hard-fought performance from everyone, with the whole team battling right until the final whistle. A great reward for the effort after an early morning and a long trip away from home. Well done, Barossa!
