Under 12s Battle to a 4–4 Draw Against Sturt
Today our Under 12s travelled away to Sturt, with wet weather looming and both teams ready to battle it out for the win.
Barossa came out strong, looking to set the pace early, and they opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a fantastic goal from Ethan
Morris. Unfortunately, Sturt hit back almost immediately to level the scores.
Ethan wasn’t finished, though! He followed it up with another great run from midfield and found the back of the net again to put his
name on the scoresheet for a second time.
For the next 15 minutes, Barossa created plenty of chances and had shot after shot on goal, but just couldn’t find that next finish.
With only a minute remaining before half-time, Barossa won a corner. A perfectly placed ball found Oscar Adams, who made no mistake
and extended Barossa’s lead heading into the break, with the boys taking a 2-goal advantage into half-time.
The second half was a completely different story. With no substitutes available, the boys began to tire as they tried to hold off a
determined Sturt side. Sturt found the gaps and quickly turned the game around, taking the lead 4–3 by the 47th minute.
With just 13 minutes remaining, unfortunately our gun goalkeeper Charlie had to come off with an injury. The coach had a quick chat
with the team while Jack took on the mantle of finishing the game in goals.
With the team now a player down, the message was simple: go out there and score two goals!
Sturt made it tough, but with just 10 minutes remaining, Jaxson found the back of the net to bring Barossa level.
The final 10 minutes were intense. Barossa dominated possession, controlling around 90% of the ball and throwing everything they
had at Sturt. Unfortunately, that final goal just wouldn’t come.
The final whistle blew with the scores locked at 4–4.
A hard-fought draw that showed plenty of determination, teamwork and fight from our boys. Playing without subs, battling through
tired legs, dealing with an injury and finishing a player down — they never gave up.
