Sunday 19 April 2026
Sunday 19th April saw Barossa United travel to West Adelaide on a cloudy, overcast morning. Barossa started strong, driving the ball forward early through Izzy Dickson and Emmy Mowbray putting immediate pressure on West Adelaide. Despite this, West Adelaide managed to score in the 3rd minute after a strong save attempt from Barossa keeper Maya Garfield, unfortunately slipped through.
Barossa responded well, with Pippa Brassil delivering a great cross to Emmy, whose shot went just wide. The defence, led by Ruby Roth and Phoebe Koch, was outstanding, working hard to hold their structure and limit West Adelaide’s chances. In the 6th minute, Maya made another solid stop which turned into a quick transition, with Lucy Amos making a strong run toward goal but unable to convert.
Barossa maintained pressure and were rewarded in the 11th minute when Lucy took possession from a sideline throw-in and scored the equalizer. In the midfield, Lily Catanzariti and Ava Knowles worked tirelessly, supporting both attack and defence while continuing to push the ball forward. Pippa came close again in the 19th minute, hitting the crossbar after a deflection.
Lucy struck again in the 21st minute to give Barossa the lead 2–1. Phoebe, Lily and Leila Bowley combined well in defence, while Ruby held her position on the right wing, sending the ball back into Barossa’s attacking half. Molly Rich also showed great positioning and effort up forward. Maya remained strong in goal with several important saves as the first half finished 2–1 up to Barossa.
The second half started well, with Ava taking over in goal and doing a great job. Strong midfield work from Lily, Ruby and Izzy created opportunities, and in the 38th minute Lucy broke away and scored from outside the box to complete her hat-trick. In the 45th minute a handball from West Adelaide in the box, gave Lucy an opportunity and she calmly converted the penalty to extend the lead to 4–1.
Barossa continued to apply pressure, with Izzy involved again in a build-up that saw Lucy score another long-range goal, pushing the lead to 5–1. Jana Tscharke and Annabel Bowley worked hard alongside Leila and Phoebe in defence, keeping West Adelaide under control.
As the sun came out, West Adelaide lifted and pushed forward, managing to score two late goals. Ava stood strong in goal with some great saves, while Pippa, Molly and Maya worked hard to drive the ball forward. Ruby and Lily helped hold the centre, keeping West Adelaide’s attack at bay during the final stages.
Both teams had late chances, including corners at either end, but Barossa held firm. With strong teamwork across the field and contributions from every player, Barossa United came away with a well-earned 5–3 win.
