Barossa United U14 defeat West Adelaide

28th June 2026
BUFC U14 Girls (3) v West Adelaide (0)

A mild but chilly 10-degree start greeted our Barossa Under 14 Girls, and after enjoying a sleep-in, the signs looked promising as they
faced West Adelaide, who arrived with only nine players on the pitch.

Right from the outset, the mood from both sides looked a little frozen, with the game starting at a slow pace. Coach Paul Amos called for
the girls to lead and take touches, hoping to thaw the Barossa girls into action and put into practice the specific elements they had been
working on at training.

Pippa Brassil and Ruby Roth worked hard up front to push the ball towards goal early, taking plenty of attempts. Issy Dickson, Molly
Rich, and Charlotte Kitschke all created good attacking opportunities, timing their touches and passes well against a determined West
Adelaide defence.

Barossa held a strong back line that performed superbly all game. Phoebe Koch, Daisy Barlow, Leila Bowley, and Annabel Bowley
hardly let the ball cross halfway. Most of the action was in Barossa’s attacking half, with an absolute flood of goal attempts, but the
girls couldn’t quite find the finishing touch to beat West Adelaide’s excellent goalkeeper.

Substitutes Lucy Amos and Emme Mowbray brought immediate energy and impact, relentlessly pushing forward until Lucy Amos took
an unfortunate knock to the ankle. As if it wasn’t cold enough, it was back to the bench for some ice.

Jemima Teague broke the deadlock with a superb strike, finding the back of the net with plenty of power. It was a huge relief for the
Barossa crowd as the scoreboard finally started to warm up, with Barossa taking a 1–0 lead into halftime.

The second half started much like the first, a little slow, but the quieter tempo made the moments of quality even more exciting. Most
notably, a corner from Lucy Amos found Emme Mowbray, whose first-time finish from around a metre off the ground flew straight into
the net. Sweet relief!

Shortly after, Lucy Amos found the net herself with a beautiful right-foot strike that clipped the crossbar before bouncing in, giving
Barossa two goals in two minutes.

The final score was Barossa United 3, West Adelaide 0.

One of Barossa’s regular goalkeepers, Maya Garfield, was sidelined through injury but still contributed by running the line, giving her
dad a well-earned rest behind the fence. The whole team was grateful to Ava Knowles for taking the gloves and defending the goal
confidently in the few moments she was called upon, keeping her composure in a game that could easily have changed if West Adelaide
had found a late opportunity.
